Granny Smith Apple Pie








Granny Smith Apple Pie      
       
  
 Ingredients

 pastry for two 9-inch pie crusts 
 1 cup sugar 
 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 
 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 
 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 
 6 large, Granny Smith apples, cored, peeled, and sliced 
 2 tablespoons butter, melted 
                         1 tablespoon lemon juice                                 


 Directions
  
 1. Preheat oven to 450°F. 

 2. Roll out half of the pastry and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan.

 3. In a small mixing bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon, 
and nutmeg. Place the sliced apples in a large bowl; toss with 
the sugar mixture, coating each slice. Pile the apples high into 
the prepared piecrust.

 4. Combine the butter and lemon juice; drizzle over the apples. 
Cover with top crust. Moisten the edges of the crust with water, 
then crimp to seal. Cut several openings in the top to 
allow steam to escape.

 5. Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350°F and 
bake for an additional 45 minutes or until browned and bubbly. 
Serve warm.
